Ah yes………. the absolute chaotic masterpiece that is The Blair Witch Project (and its GENIUS marketing)….Back when the internet was just credible enough to fool everyone and just sketchy enough to make it believable. The times of Rotten.com and NAPSTER. This movie had us all fooled, This wasn’t just promotion, it was a full-blown psychological operation on an entire generation.

Fake missing person posters, fabricated police reports, and a website that basically said “no seriously, these people are gone” had audiences walking into theaters thinking they were about to watch actual found footage of three doomed filmmakers. And honestly? It worked perfectly. It was young enough at the time to NOT understand KAYFABE whatsoever…. this was a time in my life where wresttling was still real to me (hahahha and DX was just getting big).
The sad thing is, you could never pull this off today–someone would debunk it in 12 minutes on TikTok but back then……….. it certianly blurred the line between fiction and reality so well that it turned a low-budget indie flick into one of the most legendary viral campaigns in film history.
If you have NO IDEA what this is or what I’m talking about do yourself a favor and just watch trhis movie. It probably doesn’t have remotely the same effect as it did back in the day but it’s still a niche piece of CINEMA HISTORY.
