He could’ve made a name for himself: TATUM’s gambit explains

Channing Tatum has always been vocal about trying to get a legit version of GAMBIT off the ground on the silver screen, he tried for years when he was in his ‘hunky eye candy’ phase but it never came quite to fruition.

Was it a garbage script? Director issues? 20th Century fox? who really knows….. (well let’s be honest SOMEBODY knows, but it def ain’t me) Either way he opened up to VARIETY about it a little bit (amongst a slew of other topics. HOLY COW)

Channing Tatum recently sat down with VARIETY’s CLAYTON DAVIS and they have a grand  ole conversation from home construction to AI actors. Naturally at some point GAMBIT is brought up though so OBVIOUSLY that’s what we are going to focus on here today….

It’s the bread and butter, the meat and potatoes of the conversation as far as I’m concerned (naturally it’s also NEAR the end lol)

Tatum’s schedule remains busy. He lights up when the topic turns to Gambit — the long-delayed X-Men character he once tried to bring to life in a solo film before the Disney-Fox merger. His brief cameo in Shawn Levy’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” finally gave him a taste of what might have been. “It was the most high-stakes cosplay of all time,” he says, giddy and excited.

“I looked around and saw Deadpool, Wolverine, Blade — and I’m standing there in full Gambit. I had this out-of-body kid moment.” As for what comes next, Tatum hints that Marvel “has ideas” for the character’s future. “If the fans really want it, I think there’s a world where Gambit could finally get his due.”

Buuuuuuuuut wait folks, it doesn’t stop there either, Channing Tatum also had this to say:

“Look…if we’d made our Fox version, that script would’ve never gotten made — ever,” he said. “It was an R-rated romantic comedy. And when I say R-rated, I mean we went for it. We made Gambit the kind of character who could only exist in a movie with Deadpool. We had mutants having sex! It was wild — full-on. That’s something Marvel and Disney would never do.

You don’t always know what Disney will be, but you definitely know what it’s not going to be. It’s not gonna be horror. It’s not gonna be sex. But I think Marvel needs that kind of tonal diversity; something to balance the other side. Gambit’s a great opportunity for that. There’s so much you can do with him, and he’s slowly being built into the Marvel psyche. It’s fascinating, and I think one day they’ll figure it out.”

and based off of that what do you think? We going to see GAMBIT in his own spin-off anytime soon? Honestly my answer used to be a stark HECKY NAW but with his very well recived appearance in DEADPOOL x WOLVERINE and his inclusion in the upcoming AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY flick who knows…….we could definitely see more GAMBIT on the horizon in the MCU

My 2 cents:

I mean…. It’s no secret Channing Tatum has tried to get a GAMBIT movie off of the ground for now tears. LITERAL YEARS. and at first it sounded so whack. I mean I’ll be honest here; before 21 jump street and a lot of his comedic roles in general (as well as the VOW, that’s right I said it) I didn’t take Tatum serious at all. I just thought he was sum meat-head heartthrob. But honestly and especially after seeing how he’d do it in DEADPOOL, I’m all in for it. All-in and wanting more and more.
