Man……Feels good to be back in the saddle.
What’s up, everybody (and welcome back to DAKK REAKTS). There’s something about cracking open a fresh trailer that reminds me why I love doing this in the first place. The excitement, the hype, (lately…..the cautious optimism) it’s all part of this little ritual we call DAKK REAKTS. And this time we’re diving into the newest Mandalorian and Grogu trailer. Whether you’re here for the breakdown, my take on things, or just to see if I’m about to rant, I’m glad you’re here……And i’m glad I did it
Here’s the rub:
The honest part is– I’m hesitant.
The Mandalorian started as a gritty, spaghetti-western-in-space. It had everything to scratch my itches: great storytelling, quiet tension, Favreau’s minimalist vision steering the ship, A heavy emphasis on episodic storytelling…..But Over time, it’s felt less like a lone-gunman going place to place and more like connective tissue for the wider Dave Filoni lore machine. It went from being something fresh, to the GROGU experience and now it is just what I call “The Dave Filoni Show’and it is not something that strengthens the core identity Of say Season 1.
What began as a stripped-down bounty hunter story has increasingly leaned into big franchise spectacle and overt Disney sheen. That doesn’t mean it can’t work, but it does mean this movie has something to prove. DISNEY is gonna DISNEY yanno? I mean if it works it works. Disney picked up the MCU post phase 1 and didn’t muck it up too too bad (there’s a NOTICABLE tone shift between Avengers 1 and Iron Man 3, one you can tell happened because DISNEY has to disney……and I think the same thign has happened here. I’m not a hater but I am hesitant. I still enjoy the Star Wars SCHLOCK but I am also not blind to what it is.
The Story so far:
For those who haven’t been keeping up, The Mandalorian and Grogu brings Din Djarin and his adopted Force-sensitive foundling to the Silver screen.
It is continuing their journey in the New Republic era after the fall of the Empire and it’s trajectory is somewhat a mystery. With Mando’s future still uncertain and remnants of Imperial forces lurking in the shadows, the film is expected to expand the scope beyond bounty contracts and into larger galactic stakes. Whether it returns to intimate character storytelling or doubles down on interconnected Star Wars world-building is the big question. But I don’t wanna skew too off topic. ANYWHO hope you enjoy! There’s my 2 cents.
