Nintendo is Suing the US GOVT

I Woke up today to this random tidbit. You read it right…. NINTENDO filed a lawsuit against the US GOVT. This outta be interesting, because on one hand you have the corrupt ass US GOVT and on the other hand you have the corporate litigation machine known as NINTENDO. I’m at a loss here, because both are pretty intense litigators lol. Buuuut uh yeah, that’s all of it wrapped into a nice little package if you don’t feel like reading on past this….but if you want a little more context KEEP ON REEEEEEEEADING!

ICYMI:

Nintendo filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government on March 6, 2026, in the U.S. Court of International Trade, arguing that tariffs imposed during the Trump administration were collected without proper legal authority. The company’s complaint seeks repayment of those duties along with interest, claiming the tariffs were invalid after a February 20, 2026 U.S. Supreme Court ruling determined that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) did not grant the president the power to impose tariffs in that way. In its filing, Nintendo stated that the duties were “improperly imposed and collected,” and asked the court to order federal agencies to reimburse the company for the money paid.

The dispute centers on tariffs introduced in 2025 that affected imported electronics manufactured in countries such as China and Vietnam—key production locations for Nintendo hardware. According to the company, the added costs created financial uncertainty during the planned U.S. launch of its next-generation console, commonly referred to as the Switch 2. Nintendo claims the policy forced the company to reassess pricing, logistics, and timing for the console’s American rollout, which ultimately delayed parts of its launch strategy in the United States.

The case is still in its early stages, with the Court of International Trade expected to determine whether companies affected by the tariffs are entitled to refunds and how those repayments would be calculated. Early projections suggest the court could begin addressing refund procedures later in 2026, although appeals could extend the process beyond that timeline. Analysts say potential outcomes range from a full reimbursement of tariffs to partial refunds depending on how customs regulations are applied, making the case a closely watched test of how the government will handle tariff collections ruled to be unlawful.
