Welp….it’s Official…….
As of April 6, 2026 at 10:30 AM EST, the Artemis II crew has OFFICIALLY completed its historic journey around the Moon and is now on a return trajectory to Earth (whoop Whoop). The image captures a defining moment aboard the Orion spacecraft, where the four astronauts float in microgravity, visibly at ease following the successful lunar flyby. Notice the prominently displayed American and Canadian flags? Well that has nothing to do with anything and I wasn’t going anywhere in particular with that. Just an oibservation
This is a big deal though, for real. It serves as a powerful modern echo of the Apollo era. It marks humanity’s return to crewed deep space travel beyond the Moon for the first time in decades. AND IT……IS…….MOMENTUS! I friggin love it.
From a mission operations stand point, this right here represents a critical milestone for NASA and (the Artemis program in general). It also serves as a precursor of what is to come in humanities next chapter of space exploration. One more step closer to Star Trek (wel…..that and the LA riots prolly and WW3 at some point…) and one giant leap into the modern era. For an admirer of the cosmos this is just nifty and a privilege to be able to experience.
What does it all mean?
For our crew, their return marks another mission success. All primary systems–including life support, propulsion, navigation, and deep-space communications–have now been tested in real mission conditions beyond low Earth orbit. The crew’s successful navigation around the Moon and transition into a stable return trajectory confirm that the mission architecture is performing as designed and are capabilities are NOT waning. Artemis II now stands as a proven bridge to Artemis III, where NASA aims to land humans on the lunar surface once again, using the data and confidence gained from this mission to push toward sustained lunar exploration and eventual missions to Mars.
