The inception of PI DAY in case you care
so……..Every March 14th, math enthusiasts and curious minds celebrate ‘Pi Day’ (hence this post). It’s a holiday that’s dedicated to pi (π), the number representing the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. A NEVERENDING number btw.
The modern celebration began in 1988 when physicist Larry Shaw organized the first official Pi Day gathering at the Exploratorium science museum in San Francisco. And what started as a small event involving circular walks and slices of pie slowly grew into…. THIS….an international and INTERNET holiday (applause). In 2009, the United States Congress even passed a resolution officially recognizing March 14th as National Pi Day, cementing it as a day where math, Pop Culture, and a love of pie all collide
Of course, around here celebrating Pi Day isn’t just about honoring an infinite number(or is it?) it’s also about celebrating the internet’s endless supply of jokes about it and even memes. Last year I think I did a MRU where it was all pi memes……was it last year? maybe it wasnt but I’ve done one before…. ANYWAYS……..
